Dr. Steven Johnson Jr. (he/him/his) is a seasoned higher education administrator, consultant, and scholar with a commitment to student success, leadership development, and institutional transformation. He currently serves as the Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Engagement, where he provides strategic leadership in fostering inclusive student experiences and strengthening campus life.

With a distinguished career spanning multiple areas of student affairs, Dr. Johnson has held key leadership roles, including Director for the Student Involvement and Leadership, Director for the Office of Sorority and Fraternity Life all within Student Affairs Division at the University of Kansas (KU) and Assistant Dean for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging in the KU School of Business. His expertise encompasses student leadership training, organizational change, and equity-driven initiatives that create meaningful engagement opportunities for diverse student populations.

Dr. Johnson holds a Doctor of Education in Education Leadership and Policy from the University of Kansas, a Master's degree in Student Affairs Administration from Michigan State University, and a Bachelor's degree in Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering from Iowa State University. His research interests include student employment, identity development, help-seeking strategies, and professional engagement.

Beyond his institutional roles, Dr. Johnson is an active leader in (inter)national associations, including the American College Personnel Association (ACPA), NASPA Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education, and Association of Fraternity and Sorority Advisors (AFA). He has received numerous accolades for his contributions to higher education, including the ACPA Diamond Honoree recognition, the Pan African Network Sawubona Class 30 Under 40 Award, Outstanding Directorate Board Member with the Coalitions and Networks, and Stellar 50 with the Black Diaspora Knowledge Community of NASPA. Additionally, he serves on the Black Alumni Advisory Board in the School of Education and Human Sciences and regularly volunteers with various community outreach efforts.
