Psychology Club
Psychology Club is dedicated to raising awareness on psychology as a discipline and improving the overall well-being of students.
We plan events, fundraise, volunteer, and collaborate with other campus organizations and programs to bolster student success. Our club also makes connections in the wider Springfield area to foster important networking opportunities and support our community.
We strive to create an inclusive environment in our club meetings and activities. Anyone who is interested in psychology as a discipline or simply in supporting their fellow humans is welcome! Declaring a psychology major or minor is NOT necessary to be a part of this club. You are welcome to participate as much or as little as your schedule allows. We hope to see you soon at one of our future meetings or events!
Psi Chi Honor Society
Psi Chi is the National Honor Society in psychology. Its purpose is to encourage excellence in scholarship and advance the science of psychology. Psi Chi serves two major goals:
- To provide academic recognition of its inductees by membership,
and - To offer a climate that stimulates professional growth through
the programs and activities offered by the Psi Chi chapter.
The University of Illinois at Springfield’s chapter of Psi Chi was established in 1992.
Because this is an academic honor society, there are qualifications for membership. To be eligible for membership, a student must:
- Have completed a minimum of 9 semester hours of psychology courses at UIS,
- Have no more than 8 hours of incomplete courses, and
- Have a GPA ranking in the top one-third of the class.
Qualifying students receive a letter of invitation from the campus chapter.
As one of the most popular majors at UIS, the Psychology Department has a large group of active and involved students. Although there are academic prerequisites for membership in Psi Chi at the national level, all UIS psychology students are encouraged to participate in activities and events sponsored by the UIS chapter of Psi Chi. Students are also encouraged to join the Psychology Club, which is open to all psychology students. You can see what these groups are up to by going to the Psi Chi Honor Society facebook page.
