Student Union

The new UIS Student Union will be the social heart of campus for students. In this signature building, so full of light and activity, students will interact with each other and with faculty, staff, and visitors, creating a vibrant and thriving focal point for life at UIS.

A message from the Chancellor

The Student Union at UIS will create a more vibrant campus life for students—and for faculty and staff. With so much to offer students, the Student Union will propel enrollment growth, and by drawing all of us into a closer community, it will help to keep students at UIS until they finish their degree. This beautiful building will also welcome community members to campus and provide a bright, spacious, and comfortable location for events, varied dining options, and social gatherings.

As you explore the information, photographs, renderings, and so much more included in this website, please be aware that state funds cannot be used for this vital project, and consider how you can support this crucial and strategically planned addition to Springfield’s public university.

Student Union Campaign Kickoff, Tuesday, September 30, 4:30-6:30

Come hear the Chancellor explain this important project and hear from a student, SGA President Joe McGee, who was instrumental in getting the student referendum for the Student Union passed. If you’re a student, come learn about what your fees will help bring to campus (and remember, fees begin ONLY after the Student Union has been completely built and is open for students to use).

The Student Union Campaign Kickoff will have a carnival theme, with games, carnival treats, giveaways (including a free t-shirt), and special “tours” through the Student Union floor plans.

Take a look at a printed announcement (pdf–and thanks, Jeff Williams in Campus Services, for the great design). COME ONE! COME ALL!

Updated floor plans

The architects have made some changes to the floor plans. Take a look…

New Student Union Video!

We asked Chancellor Koch,  faculty member Missy Thibodeaux-Thompson, and three outspoken students–Jamaal Hollins, Samia Ahmad, and Nate Hoyle–to share their excitement about the new Student Union. Take a look at the new video.
