Public radio station WUIS-WIPA opens Pittsfield Bureau

SPRINGFIELD – Ceremonies marking the opening of public radio station WUIS-WIPA’s new Pittsfield Bureau will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, October 30, at John Wood Community College’s Pittsfield Education Center, located at 1308 W. Washington, Pittsfield.

Bureau Director Shawn Johnson and other members of the WUIS-WIPA staff will be on hand to explain plans to expand the stations’ news coverage in west central Illinois.

Brad Swanson, station general manager, noted, “The rural area of Illinois is rich with stories that need to be told. The opening of the WUIS-WIPA Pittsfield Bureau is a part of our commitment to west central Illinois and to bringing those stories forward. This has been a dream of ours for a while and last year became part of our strategic plan. We are grateful for the support of our members in this area and to John Wood Community College for working collaboratively with us to make this a reality.”

Joining Swanson for the ribbon-cutting at approximately 4:30 p.m. will be        Dr. Bill Simpson, president of John Wood Community College; Kent Hawley, director of JWCC’s Pittsfield campus; and Ernest Cowles, acting director of the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Center for Governmental Studies at the University of Illinois at Springfield.

Other invited dignitaries include Pittsfield Mayor Larry Snyder, Economic Development Director Bill McCartney, Main Street Program members, the JWCC Board of Trustees, and members of the Pike County Chamber of Commerce.

Refreshments will be served and the public is invited to attend. For more information, contact Lisa Clemmons Stott or Jiffy Johnson at (217) 206-6516 or toll free at (866) 206-9847.
