Everybody cut Footloose at Sangamon Auditorium

SPRINGFIELD - In 1984, a movie called Footloose captured the heart of America and made it beat to the music of a solid gold soundtrack. Now the explosive, breakaway Broadway hit will have everyone in Springfield kicking off his or her Sunday shoes. The national tour of Footloose comes to the University of Illinois at Springfield’s Sangamon Auditorium at 2 and 8 p.m. Saturday, November 25, and 2 p.m. Sunday, November 26, sponsored by American General Financial Group.

Footloose is a tale of teenage rebellion and the struggle to come to terms with loss -- a boy’s loss of his father and a man’s loss of his son. Ren McCormack, a teenager from Chicago, moves to the conservative rural town of Bomont with his mother after his father leaves them. Bomont is a typical small town, except for its law against dancing. After Reverend Moore’s son Bobby was killed in a car accident, brought on by a night of drinking and dancing, he led a successful campaign to ban dancing in the town. When Ren tries to get the law overturned, he clashes with the Reverend.

Footloose the musical features such memorable hits as “Footloose” by Kenny Loggins, “The Girl Gets Around” by Sammy Hagar, “Holding Out for a Hero” by Jim Steinman, and “Almost Paradise” by Eric Carmen. The score also features songs written solely for the musical, not featured in the movie version.
