UIS Alumni Association to host etiquette dinnerMarch 25, 2005SPRINGFIELD - “The ABCs of Forks, Knives, and Toasting” is the focus of a dinner featuring instruction in business and social etiquette to be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 8, in the Public Affairs Center restaurant on campus at the University of Illinois at Springfield. Advance registration is required for the event, which is presented by the U of I Alumni Association and co-sponsored by the Office of Career Services, Student Government Association, and Office of Student Life at UIS. Topics will include how to “work” a reception, how and when to exchange business cards, and other tips that can help enhance one’s career and personal life. Participants will also enjoy a four-course meal, during which they will brush up on their table manners. The instructor will be Beth Reutter, coordinator of the Hospitality Management Program at the U of I campus at Urbana-Champaign. UIUC’s self-styled “manners maven,” Reutter has presented this program to students and other college groups as well as to business groups in the Champaign-Urbana area. Mary Caroline Mitchell, associate director of alumni relations at UIS, noted, “The ability to make others feel comfortable in your presence is the goal of being well-trained in business and social etiquette.” Cost of the event, which includes dinner and instruction, is $10 for current UIS students and $20 for all others. Make reservations no later than Friday, April 1, by contacting Alumni Relations at 206-7395 or alumni@uis.edu, or by going to www.uiaa.org/spfld/ and clicking on “calendar.”
