Sixth Annual Springfield Collegiate Career Fair to be held at UIS

March 12, 2004

SPRINGFIELD - The career planning and placement offices of the University of Illinois at Springfield, Lincoln Land Community College, Robert Morris College, and Springfield College in Illinois will host the sixth annual Springfield Collegiate Career Fair from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, March 26, in the lower level of the Public Affairs Center on the UIS campus.  The event is free and the primary audience is current students and alumni of the four participating institutions.

Representatives from more than 100 area employers are expected to be on hand. Past fairs have drawn as many as 500 participants.

The fair is designed to provide those interested in various careers with an open information exchange about different organizations, hiring trends, and the best routes to future opportunities in addition to information about actual job openings.  For potential employers, it is a chance to disseminate pertinent information and to develop a pool of candidates interested in future opportunities, internships, and summer openings as well as permanent employment.

Information for students, alumni, and others:  Preregistration is not required; business attire is strongly recommended.  UIS participants are encouraged to submit a paper copy of their current resume to the Career Services Center in advance for inclusion in a resume book that will be made available to employers during the fair and after. All participants should also bring additional copies of their resumes to the fair.

During the spring semester, assistance in preparing an effective resume is available from the UIS Career Services Center on a walk-in basis from 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesdays, noon to 2 p.m. Wednesdays, and 10 a.m. to noon Thursdays.  The center will also sponsor a workshop for UIS students and alumni on “How to Prepare for a Career Fair” from noon to 1 p.m. on Monday, March 22. This workshop is free but reservations are required.

Information for employers: Advance registration is required. Free booth space will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Call career services to register or for more information.

UIS’ Career Services Center is located in room 50 of the Student Affairs Building, phone (217) 206-6508. An updated list of participating employers is available on the website at

Partial support for the career fair is provided by Hardees and the UIS Division of Student Affairs.
