SPRINGFIELD
– Dr. Delinda Chapman, AAUW representative to the ERA Illinois Campaign,
will speak on “ERA in Illinois: Past, Present, and Future?” Wednesday, March 19, at Maldaner’s Upstairs, 222 S. Sixth St.,
Springfield. The presentation is part of the Taste of UIS lunchtime lecture
series sponsored by the University of Illinois Alumni Association (Springfield
campus). The program is open to the public; however, reservations are required.
The program will begin with a buffet lunch
starting at 11:30 a.m. Chapman’s presentation will begin at 12:10 p.m. and
conclude by 12:50 p.m. (However, those who have the time are welcome to linger
for more discussion.)
First introduced in Congress in the 1920s,
the Equal Rights Amendment is still three states short, including Illinois, of
the number required for ratification. Chapman will provide a refresher course
on the ERA’s history and look at plans for its revival in the Illinois
legislature during the spring session. A UIS alumna, Chapman recently retired
from a 20-year career in state government.
Cost is $18 per person, $13 for members of
the Alumni Association and their guests. Reservations must be made no later
than Friday, March 14, by e-mailing the Alumni Association at alumni@uis.edu or
by phoning 206-7395.
Upcoming programs in the Taste of UIS series
are (April 23) Hei-Chi Chan, assistant professor of Mathematical Sciences,
speaking on “Fascinating Physics in Simple Terms” and (May 21) Charles
Schweighauser, professor of Astronomy/Physics, speaking on “What’s New in the
Solar System.”
