Comedienne Paula Poundstone returns to Sangamon Auditorium

SPRINGFIELD With two sold-out performances under her belt, Paula Poundstone is returning to the University of Illinois at Springfield’s Sangamon Auditorium at 8 p.m. on Friday, March 30, sponsored by the Crowne Plaza Hotel.

Poundstone is one of the most original and imaginative comediennes in the country today. Choosing honesty and an off-kilter worldview, she tackles everyday life, including the peaks and valleys of parenting. She came to prominence in the comedy-wild ‘80s, but her talent was so genuine that she was still standing when the craze ended. Poundstone says, I’m just amazed that what I got thrown out of class for, I now get paid to do. The same thing could be said by criminals, I suppose.

The career that started in the classroom has earned her numerous honors including an American Comedy Award, two Cable ACE Awards, and an Emmy. She has appeared on The Tonight Show, The Rosie O’Donnell Show, and is a regular on the new To Tell the Truth.

Poundstone’s connection with the audience has always been close, interactive, and in the moment. For her,stand-up is really just a phrase. She is so at ease on stage that she often drapes herself over a stool while she engages the audience. It really forms a relationship with the crowd -- plus, there is no physical violence, never any injuries. Well, once in a while the front row will slam dance, but nothing too bad, says Poundstone.

Tickets are $30 (Gold Circle AA-L), 25, 22, 20, and 13. Tickets can be ordered by calling the Sangamon Auditorium Ticket Office, (217) 206-6160 or (800) 207-6960, between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
