Saunders receives Outstanding Online Faculty Award
January 27, 2004
SPRINGFIELD - Elizabeth Saunders, coordinator of the Master Teaching and Leadership concentration at the University of Illinois at Springfield, has received an Outstanding Online Faculty Award presented by the University Center of Lake County. The awards, honoring Saunders and three other faculty members, were presented at the center’s annual meeting in December.
Recipients were selected based on nominations submitted by their students. Selection Committee chair Lynn Evans said that the testimonials made it evident that “these most-deserving faculty are changing students’ lives.”
Materials nominating Saunders noted in part that she is “ever vigilant in her mother hen instincts in creating an online learning community for us…I am often amazed at how genuine her degree of concern is for all of us.”
Saunders, a Peoria resident, both advises and teaches in Master Teaching and Leadership, which is an online concentration within UIS’ graduate Educational Leadership program. The goal of MTL is to provide teachers with an opportunity to earn a high-quality degree while using university courses toward certificate renewal or to prepare for the master teaching certificate. Program delivery via the Internet allows teachers to participate without the need to travel long distances or compromise their schedules.
