SPRINGFIELD – A town meeting with Dr. Jane Smith,
CEO of Business and Professional Women/USA, is set for 4 to 5 p.m. Tuesday,
March 4, in the library of
Feitshans-Edison Magnet School, located 1101 South 15th Street in
Springfield. The meeting is open to the public; refreshments will be served.
Smith will share her experiences as a
national leader in neighborhood restoration and revitalization and her vision
for community engagement. In addition to her work with BPW, Smith previously
directed the Atlanta Project, which is the model for The Springfield
Project, a community effort that works with residents to expand their capacity
to identify and resolve issues affecting their neighborhoods.
The
Springfield Project, the University of Illinois at Springfield’s Community
Outreach Partnership Center, and Feitshan-Edison Magnet School are the
sponsoring partners for this meeting.
Later that evening, at 7 p.m., Smith will speak on “Alone and Together: Women in Business and Life” in Brookens Auditorium, located on the lower level of Brookens Library on the UIS campus. This event is presented in observance of International Women’s Day and Women’s Heritage Month.
A reception sponsored by the UIS Office
of Minority Student Affairs will follow her talk in the PAC Restaurant.
