Jane Smith will share views on community engagement

SPRINGFIELD – A town meeting with Dr. Jane Smith, CEO of Business and Professional Women/USA, is set for 4 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 4, in the library of Feitshans-Edison Magnet School, located 1101 South 15th Street in Springfield. The meeting is open to the public; refreshments will be served.

Smith will share her experiences as a national leader in neighborhood restoration and revitalization and her vision for community engagement. In addition to her work with BPW, Smith previously directed the Atlanta Project, which is the model for The Springfield Project, a community effort that works with residents to expand their capacity to identify and resolve issues affecting their neighborhoods.

Later that evening, at 7 p.m., Smith will speak on “Alone and Together: Women in Business and Life” in Brookens Auditorium, located on the lower level of Brookens Library on the UIS campus. This event is presented in observance of International Women’s Day and Women’s Heritage Month.

A reception sponsored by the UIS Office of Minority Student Affairs will follow her talk in the PAC Restaurant.

The UIS Women’s Center, College of Business and Management, Community Outreach and Partnership Center, Diversity Task Force, Office of Minority Student Affairs, and Academic Affairs Speakers Fund are the sponsoring partnership for this presentation.
