Seven from UIS pass CPA exam

SPRINGFIELD Seven graduates and current students of the College of Business and Management at the University of Illinois at Springfield successfully passed the November 2002 certified public accountant (CPA) examination. They are Brett M. Cox, Kurt E. Gibson, Barbara J. Harvey, Victoria J. Jacob, Joseph E. O’Hara II, R. Derek Richards, and Nicole F. Tinkham.

Cox, Gibson, Harvey, and Tinkham all earned the bachelor’s degree in Accountancy at UIS. Cox and Tinkham are Springfield residents. Gibson is from Tremont and Harvey is from Easton.

O’Hara earned the bachelor of business administration at UIS. He is from Springfield.

Jacob and Richards, who are currently graduate students in UIS’ Accountancy department, are from Springfield and Rochester, respectively.

The CPA exam is given twice each year, in May and November. Approximately 60,000 people nationwide sat for the most recent exam.

UIS’ Accountancy department traditionally has one of the highest pass rates in the nation for people taking the CPA exam for the first time. Graduates of the program have also received prestigious awards, such as the EXCEL Award, at several times the national average.
