Entries open for WUIS Young Musicians Concert ContestDecember 7, 2006SPRINGFIELD -- Young classical musicians in area elementary and high schools are invited to enter the third annual Young Musicians Concert Contest sponsored by Public Radio WUIS 91.9FM -WIPA 89.3FM. Contestants must be currently enrolled -- through private lessons or in a classroom setting -- in an organized program of musical study. Completed applications and audition tapes must be turned in to the WUIS studios on the University of Illinois at Springfield campus no later than December 31. Accepted contestants will perform before a panel of judges and a live audience at 7 p.m. Friday, February 2, at the First Presbyterian Church, 321 S. Seventh Street in Springfield. Their solo performances will be broadcast at a later date on WUIS-WIPA. Both the live concert and a reception immediately following are free and open to the public.
Cash prizes of more than $1,000, provided through the support of Ameren, will be awarded to first-, second-, and third-place winners in both Senior (high school) and Junior (elementary school) categories. WUIS is a listener-supported service of the Center for State Policy and Leadership at the University of Illinois at Springfield.
