UIS Professor Emeritus To Lead Prestigious Discussion Series

SPRINGFIELD – Dr. Judith Everson, professor emeritus of English and founding faculty member at the University of Illinois at Springfield, has been selected to act as Facilitator for the August 28 Leadership Dialogue sponsored by the Institute of Government and Public Affairs (IGPA) and the Academy for Municipal Excellence.

The August 28 Leadership Dialogue will focus on The Grapes of Wrath, John Steinbeck’s 1939 prize-winning novel and is expected to draw senior government executives and policy makers.             The prestigious Leadership Dialogues, held six times a year on the University of Illinois campus at Urbana-Champaign, attract participants from around the state who hold demanding leadership positions in both the public and private sectors. Each time, the group discusses a literary classic and explores its lessons in leadership insight and principles. The purpose is to enhance leadership ability and encourage participants to develop camaraderie with others who face similar leadership challenges.

            “Dr. Everson is a complete scholar, teacher, and intellectual, and is intuitively familiar with the subject and purpose of the book and also with the broader work and contributions of John Steinbeck, said Paul Craig, IGPA. She will be an exceptionally able facilitator. The session promises to be one of our best.

            Professor Everson, who retired from UIS in 2000 after a 30-year teaching and research career, is a past president of the James Jones Literary Society and has served as a board member of the Illinois Humanities Council. At UIS, she received numerous awards and recognition for excellence in teaching and also served in various administrative posts.
