SPRINGFIELD –
Illinois Edition, a program produced by WUIS
(91.9/Springfield) and WIPA (89.3/Pittsfield), will receive three top awards
from the Associated Press Broadcasters Association when the Illinois News
Broadcasters convention meets later this month in Rock Island.
Reporter Tom
Weber’s program on “Illinois Ballparks,” focusing on the construction of minor
league baseball stadiums in the state, and Pittsfield bureau chief Shawn
Johnson’s piece “The Mother Road,” a look at Route 66 in Illinois, received
first- and second-place in the
Documentary category, respectively.
Regional reporter Kavitha Cardoza’s
“Road Kill Guy,” a profile of a highway worker with a unique job, took second
place in the Best Feature Reporting
category.
Illinois Edition is a
13-week program that airs on WUIS/WIPA from July through September. Public radio WUIS/WIPA is operated by the University
of Illinois at Springfield.
