Hit musical revue I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change coming to Sangamon Auditorium

SPRINGFIELD Since it opened at the Westside Theatre in New York in 1996, I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change has earned praise from critics and audiences alike. With more than 1,000 performances staged and record-breaking runs in Los Angeles, Toronto, Detroit, Miami, and London, I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change makes its debut at the University of Illinois at Springfield’s Sangamon Auditorium at 8 p.m. on Saturday, April 14, sponsored by SIU Physicians & Surgeons.

Four actors take the audience on a musical joyride through the modern-day mating game, playing over 40 roles in a collection of scenes and songs. With tongue planted firmly in cheek, I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change is billed as a “triumph for that long-neglected special-interest group: Hopeful Heterosexuals.” The show spans the relational dynamics of dating, romance, marriage, lovers, husbands, wives, and in-laws.

I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change opens at the dawn of humankind with the four actors in hooded robes. They talk of woman. They talk of man. And they immediately realize there’s going to be a problem. The action zips ahead thousands of years to an array of eternally resilient singles trying to connect. As the characters age they sing about babies, car trips with relatives, and middle age.

Tickets are $30, 27, 25, and 15. Tickets can be ordered by calling the Sangamon Auditorium Ticket Office, (217) 206-6160 or (800) 207-6960, between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The auditorium administrative offices can be reached at (217) 206-6150 or by e-mail at
