SPRINGFIELD - UIS Music ensembles will present a recital beginning at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 11, in the TV studio at the University of Illinois at Springfield. The concert is open to the public and is presented as part of the campus' annual Arts Night celebration.
This intimate recital will feature performances by members of the UIS Chamber Orchestra, Chorus, and Band, working together and in small groups. Highlights will include choral works from a broad geography, including a German madrigal and a Czech folk song, Gabriel Faurè's Pavane Op. 50, music for tubas and cellos, and excerpts from the orchestral suite from Didn't He Ramble! by Creole scholar and composer Dr. Sybil Kein.
UIS Music will present the complete suite from Didn't He Ramble! early in May at the Spring Showcase Concert. Dr. Kein will be present at that performance.
Seating for the recital is limited. Concert tickets are $6 and are available at the Sangamon Auditorium Ticket Office. Five dollars from each ticket sold will benefit the UIS Music Student Merit Award Scholarship Fund.
UIS' TV studio is located in the Office of Electronic Media, on the lower level of the Public Affairs Center. For more information, contact Todd Cranson, UIS assistant director of co-curricular music, by phone at 206-7549 or by e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org, or go to www.uis.edu/music.
