SPRINGFIELD – As part of its Government Accountability and a Free Press Project, the University of Illinois at Springfield will be hosting a performance of L.A. Theatre Works' Top Secret: The Battle for the Pentagon Papers on Friday, February 1, at 8 p.m. at Sangamon Auditorium, UIS.

For two decades, L.A. Theatre Works has been the foremost radio theater company in the United States and features a first-rate cast that has included some of Hollywood's brightest stars. Top Secret: The Battle for the Pentagon Papers -- under the producing direction of Susan Albert Loewenberg and starring film actor John Heard -- is a live radio play that takes an inside look at The Washington Post's decision to publish the top secret study documenting U.S. involvement in Vietnam. This historic trial, arguably the most important Supreme Court case ever on freedom of the press, tested the parameters of the First Amendment, pitting the public's right to know against the government's desire for secrecy.

The performance will be recorded and broadcast at a later date by 91.9 - WUIS Public Radio

Sponsors are the University of Illinois at Springfield's College of Public Affairs and Administration, Center for State Policy and Leadership, and Sangamon Auditorium.
