SPRINGFIELD – The Theatre Program at the University of Illinois at Springfield will hold open auditions for the final production of its 2007-2008 season – Tennessee Williams' "serious comedy" Period of Adjustment – on Sunday, February 10, and Monday, February 11, beginning at 7 p.m. both nights in the Studio Theatre, located on level one of the Public Affairs Center on the UIS campus. Call-backs will be at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, February 12.

There are parts for four men and four women. Auditions are open to anyone, with or without experience. "Actors should dress comfortably, be ready to move and do cold readings from the script," said Assistant Professor of Theatre Eric Thibodeaux-Thompson, who will direct. He added that headshots and resumes, as well as prepared, one-minute contemporary monologues are appreciated, but not mandatory.

Period of Adjustment, Williams' first full-length comedy, tells the story of two marriages at crisis points – one couple has broken up after five years together, the other hasn't been able to come to terms after just one day. Both couples are living through a period of adjustment. While the play has a happy ending, Williams called it "a serious comedy" and critics have described it as a work that "combines a humorous viewpoint with deep-seated concern for a very real human situation." Scripts are available for 24-hour checkout with a refundable $10 cash deposit, from the Communication/Theatre program office in UIS' University Hall, room 3010, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. A limited number of scripts will also be placed on reserve in UIS' Brookens Library.

Casting will be completed by February 15. Thibodeaux-Thompson said that rehearsals will begin Sunday, February 17, lasting approximately six weeks and generally scheduled for Sunday through Thursday nights from 7 to 10 p.m. Production dates are April 4 through 6 and 10 through 12.
