Diavolo coming soon to Sangamon Auditorium, UIS

October 19, 2007

Contact: Bryan Leonard, 217/206-8284, leonard.bryan@uis.edu

SPRINGFIELD – The unique modern dance company Diavolo will perform at the University of Illinois at Springfield's Sangamon Auditorium on Friday, November 9, 2007, at 8 p.m.

Diavolo company members are dancers, gymnasts, actors, and athletes who redefine dance through dynamic movement and enlighten communities through trust, teamwork, and individual expression. The performers interact with oversized surrealistic structures that provide a backdrop for their dramatic leaps and twisting movements.

As modern society becomes more complex with new technologies and possibilities, Diavolo investigates the latent absurdities of contemporary human life and seeks to recontextualize those absurdities through the body. Expanding the boundaries of what is considered dance, Diavolo creates movement that offers a cinematic experience of powerful images and abstract narratives.

Tickets for this event are $36 or $31 and are on sale now. To order tickets visit www.SangamonAuditorium.org or call the Sangamon Auditorium Ticket Office at (217) 206-6160 or toll free at 800-207-6960.  Tickets can also be purchased in-person at the Ticket Office, which is open Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

A free pre-show discussion will be held at 7:15 p.m. in Conference Room G on the lower level of the Public Affairs Center.  The discussion will be hosted by Julie Guttas, artistic director of the Springfield Ballet Company; two members of Diavolo will be available to answer questions about their unique style of modern dance.
