Accomplishments: Dr. Mills has been a professor at UIS since 1994, four years as a visiting professor in Child, Family, and Community Services, where she taught at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. Her master’s degree in social work is from the University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign, where she was also an adjunct lecturer in the school of social work. Her doctorate in Adult Continuing Education is from Northern Illinois University.

Dr. Mills is also the Public Affairs Consultant for the Illinois Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) and she served as the Association’s full time lobbyist for 4 years. Prior to this she worked in a variety of human service areas including mental health, schools, child welfare, and family service agencies. She maintained a private clinical practice in individual, child and family therapy, and divorce mediation. She also held a variety of administrative positions in private, not-for-profit agencies.

Dr. Mills currently serves on an advisory committee to the Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS), dealing with family self sufficiency.
