Using the UIS Cares Food Pantry – FAQ
Is the Food Pantry open during the COVID-19 university closure?
A Micro-pantry is available 24/7 in the west entrance of the Student Union for students in immediate need of food. Donations may also be made at this location.
Pre-bagged food is available by emailing the pantry at UISCares@uis.edu or leaving a message with the UIS Volunteer and Civic Engagement Center at 217-206-7716.
Are refrigerated items like milk and eggs available? A limited number of refrigerated items are available for “curbside” pick-up by completing a Pre-order form. The pick-up time will be confirmed by email.
Who can use the UIS Cares Food Pantry?
All students who are currently enrolled at University of Illinois Springfield are eligible to use the UIS Cares Food Pantry. A valid I-card must be presented at each visit.
How much does it cost to use the UIS Cares Food Pantry?
The UIS Cares Food Pantry is a FREE service.
What types of items are available at the UIS Cares Food Pantry?
Non-perishable food food items such as rice, pasta, sauces, soups and vegetables are available at all times. Refrigerated items such as milk, cheese, yogurt, fresh vegetables and frozen items available may change from week to week.
How many items may be taken?
The number of items and variety of options change based on availability, but there is no limit on the number of items an individual can take during a shopping trip.
How frequently can the UIS Cares Food Pantry be used?
Individuals may visit the UIS Cares Food Pantry as often as necessary during scheduled hours.
When is the UIS Cares Food Pantry open?
Hours when classes are in session.
Wednesday – 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.
Thursday – 5:00-7:00 p.m.
Friday- 1:0-4:00 p.m.
