UIS provides a unique, student-focused educational experience that emphasizes learning in and outside of the classroom. Every measure has been taken with the utmost care and consideration to support safety for living, learning, working and training at UIS. We are United In Safety.

Vaccines

Vaccines have been and remain an effective tool for preventing serious illness, especially in those at higher risk for complications. The primary COVID-19 vaccination series, however, is significantly less effective at preventing transmission of the emerging and prevalent subvariants of the virus. For this reason, we do not require the COVID-19 primary vaccine series but strongly recommend that you stay up to date with the most recent vaccination available as a barrier to serious illness.

Face Coverings

Face coverings are not required on campus. However, any individual who makes the personal decision to wear a face covering will be fully supported. No additional requirements for face coverings should be implemented at the unit, facility or event level. If you contract COVID-19 and return to work or school after your five-day isolation period, the CDC strongly recommends wearing a face covering if in meetings or group settings until 10 days have passed since symptoms began or you received a positive test result.

Testing

Testing is not required. The SHIELD COVID-19 testing station on the UIS campus permanently closed on April 27, 2023.

Exposure & Isolation

UIS follows the CDC guidance for exposure and isolation.

Campus Operations

All of the UIS health and safety guidelines are subject to change based on the nature of the pandemic, university and community transmission rates, policy changes, and other relevant factors.
