An advantage of UIS being located in the state capital played out again this week when several of them got tickets to the GOP gubernatorial debate downtown. Award-winning journalist Chris Young, a longtime State Journal-Register writer and photographer, earned UIS’s Outstanding Master’s Thesis Award. Dozens of UIS students organized themselves to take part in the downtown Springfield Holiday Walk on December 11, 2013. This was part of the effort by student leaders this year to make themselves more visible as the UIS student body downtown and around the city.
Several institutions are teaming up again to host the 2014 Springfield Collegiate Career Fair at UIS from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, February 14. We’re very pleased that UIS students helped to collect 11,147 pounds of food for the Central Illinois Foodbank on Halloween night this year – and just as grateful that the community responded so well to our students’ Trick or Treating for Canned Goods. Thanks to all.
