Outstanding Beginning Teacher Award

Sherri Bettis is an English teacher at Bloomington Junior High School and was the recipient of the UIS TEP Outstanding Beginning Teacher Award given through the Illinois Association of Colleges for Teacher Education *IACTE) in Spring of 2016.  Sherri was an online TEP student at UIS, finishing the requirements for her teaching license in secondary English in Fall of 2013.

Sherri’s principal, Sherrilyn Thomas, says that Sherri demonstrates a genuine commitment for learning, a  thorough understanding of middle school students, and solid content knowledge.  Ms. Bettis also understand the importance of relationship building, and she engages students with techniques that make them feel ownership of their learning.  Sherri Bettis is just one example of the amazing teachers we have in Illinois!
