About

The Survey Research Office (SRO), located within the Center for State and Policy Leadership at the University of Illinois Springfield, offers a full range of survey and data management services, and has a long history of providing applied research services to state and local governmental agencies, nonprofit organizations, and units of UIS. The office has particular strengths in all aspects of survey research (from questionnaire design to analysis), conducting focus groups and in-depth interviews, and program evaluation. Some of our current and previous clients include Hospital Sisters Health Systems, the American Lung Association, the City of Springfield, the Illinois Department of Public Health, the United Way of Central Illinois, the Community Foundation for the Land of Lincoln, and The Illinois Department of Transportation.  We invite you to learn more about our research and services by exploring the website or by contacting us.

SRO is a charter member of the American Association for Public Opinion Research (AAPOR) Transparency Initiative. As a Transparency Initiative member, the Office is committed to holding up the goal of transparency in research and to conducting research in conformance with AAPOR’ s code of ethics. The Office is also affiliated with the Association of Academic Survey Research Organizations (AASRO). AASRO members are committed to advancing the goals of the academic survey research center community and the social and behavioral sciences generally.

Staff

Alan J. (AJ) Simmons, PhD

Dr. Simmons is proud to be the Research Director of the Institute for Legal, Legislative, and Policy Studies (ILLAPS) and the Survey Research Office (SRO). In his role, AJ hopes to help people, governments, and organizations collect actionable data to make informed, evidence-based, decisions. AJ previously worked in the SRO as the Graduate Research Assistant prior to completing his PhD in Political Science at Arizona State University and leading a team of researchers for the Arizona state government. He is married to Valerie and they have two daughters. When he is not working, he enjoys spending time with his family, their two dogs, reading, hiking, fishing, playing/watching soccer, and gardening.

Cindy Jones, MSed, MA

Cindy Jones is the Visiting Research Manager of the Survey Research Office. Cindy graduated from Southern Illinois University with a Masters in Educational Psychology and a Masters in History. Cindy has held several positions with the SRO since 2013.

Tonda Reece, MPA

Tonda Reece is the Data Collection Coordinator of the Survey Research Office in the UIS Center for State Policy and Leadership. Tonda graduated from Mississippi Valley State University with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a minor in Office Administration. Tonda has held many different positions at SRO since 2013 including working as telephone interviewer and mail supervisor. She has managed the mail components of numerous projects at SRO. In 2018, Tonda completed her Masters in Public Administration at UIS.
