Professional Service Consultants

For a project of this size, UIS needed the skills of  a team of professionals. The following were selected to work on the project. Please note that some of these are local (Springfield) firms, and several are minority firms–both of which played a role in their selection.

Architectural Firms

Dewberry, the architectural firm of record, is among the leading architecture practices for higher education facilities. They have over six decades of experience designing educational facilities, with projects valued at more than $1 billion in construction completed to date. Dewberry has designed buildings for large universities, community colleges, and small, private institutions throughout the country.

When working on a project, Dewberry meets the challenges of campus identity, sustainability, security, and evolving program needs. They have designed many different types of buildings, from classroom, library, and laboratory environments to residence halls, student centers/unions, and recreational facilities.

Workshop Architects

Workshop Architects, a planning, programming, and architectural firm, focuses on creating environments for social interaction and creative expression. Guided by robust research and design methodologies, Workshop’s team of architects, planners and designers work with leading educational, cultural and corporate institutions to plan and design spaces that reflect their client’s highest aspirations.

The firm designs from the “Inside-Out.” They believe that good design can inspire creativity, nurture social interaction, and build community. Good design, however, is shaped not just by architects; it is shaped by the very people who will socialize in its lounges, perform on its stages, and work within its walls, so they listen deeply to how people want to feel when they are in a space, and then design around the highest aspirations that clients express.
