Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs
Dr. Clarice Ford
Dr. Ford oversees all areas in Student Affairs
Education: Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in Multicultural Education from Anitoch University; Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from Fielding Graduate University
Dr. Ford came to UIS from Berry College, Rome Georgia, where she served as the Associate Dean of Multicultural Affairs. Prior to that she worked at Youngstown State University and The Ohio State University in the areas of Student Affairs
Assistant Vice Chancellor Student Affairs/Executive Director of Auxiliary Services
Dr. Van Lee Vieregge
Education: Bachelor of Science (Finance), Southern Illinois University Edwardsville; Master of Business Administration, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, Doctor of Education in Higher Education Administration, Saint Louis University
Dr. Vieregge oversees the following units:
- Campus Bookstore
- Campus Recreation
- Counseling Center
- Cox Children’s Center
- Food Services
- Residence Life
Dr. Vieregge came to UIS from Saint Louis University, where he served as the Director of Business and Auxiliary Services for Student Development. Prior to that he was the Business Administrator at Graham Correctional Center and worked for many years with the Illinois Department of Transportation. Other positions include full time adjunct faculty at Greenville College since 1997, as adjunct faculty at Blackburn College for three years and as an instructor for Lake Land College for 2 years.
Executive Director of the UIS Student Union
Education: Bachelor of Science from Quincy University and Masters Degree in Education from Southern Illinois University
Ms. Comerford oversees the following units:
- UIS Student Union
- Student Life
- Volunteer and Civic Engagement
Ms. Ann T. Comerford, new Executive Director of the UIS Student Union with over 20 years’ experience working in Student Affairs including 7 years as Director of University Union at Western Illinois University and 13 years in Student Activities at Western, SIU-C and Quincy. Ann has a Bachelor of Science from Quincy University and a Master’s degree in Education from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale.
Acting Dean of Students
Jantzen Eddington, J.D.
Education: Bachelor of Arts, Political Science and History, Valparaiso University; Master of Arts in Education, McKendree University; Doctor of Jurisprudence, Mississippi College, School of Law
As Acting Dean of Students, Jantzen provides advocacy and assistance for students. Jantzen also oversees the Dean of Students Office and Student Conduct.
Jantzen came to UIS with over a decade of professional experience working in Higher Education, this experience includes athletics, student conduct, residence life, Greek Affairs, adjunct teaching, including co-teaching a short-term study abroad course, and coordinating a retention program. Jantzen has presented at both regional and national conferences on Student Affairs and Higher Education topics.
In addition to Jantzen’s Higher Education experience, while in law school, Jantzen served as a law clerk for a local law firm and served as an Extern/Volunteer with the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance. From 2015-2016, Jantzen served as Lieutenant Governor for Professional Development and Membership for the Student Division of the 10th Circuit of the American Bar Association.
Interim Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Engagement
Dr. Mark Dochterman
Education: Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Illinois College, Master of Arts in Communication Studies from Ball State University, Doctor of Philosophy in Higher Education Administration from Louisiana State University.
Dr. Dochterman oversees the following units:
- Career Development Center
- Disability Services
- Health Services
- Student Veterans Affairs
Prior to his current position, Dochterman served as the Director of the UIS Volunteer & Civic Engagement Center from 2011 to 2017. He came to UIS from Louisiana State University where he served as Coordinator of Student Activities and then Director of Student Activities for the LSU Honors College. Dochterman has more than 10 years of adjunct faculty teaching experience with an emphasis on service learning.

Christina D. Ryan
Education: Bachelors Degree, Management and Masters Degree in Business Administration, University of Illinois at Springfield
Prior Work Experience at UIS: 23 years at UIS in various offices, Account Technician, OBFS Accounting Office
Business Manager, Illinois Issues magazine / Center for State Policy and Leadership
Administrative Aide to the Vice Chancellor
Prior to working for the Division of Student Affairs, Tisha was Administrative Aide for the Vice Chancellor of Business and Administrative Services and the SSU Foundation office. Tisha has been working for SSU/UIS for 23 years.
