Civil Service Advisory Council MINUTES Wednesday October 14, 2015 10:00 a.m. – PAC 4E Present: CJ Castelletti, Kelly Walraven, Jo Barnard, Brian Moore, Toni Langdon, Kara Lawyer, Caitlin Perry, Eric Needham, Jeff Sudduth, Amber Pyle, Joanne Hoagland, Denise Rothenbach, Janice Marvel Excused Absences: Bobbie Fults-Babbs, Jamie Voyles Guests: Laura Alexander (HR) Ryan Croke (Chancellor’s office) I. Call to Order: 10:03 AM No additions to agenda. II. Approve Agenda for this meeting: Yes. Motion by Kelly Walraven, second by Jeff Sudduth. Motion carried. III. Approve Minutes from last meeting: Yes. Motion by Jeff Sudduth, second by Denise Rothenbach. Motion carried. IV. Announcements: None V. New Business: Parking Fees (SGA & UIS paper investigation) - Rates will increase next year. VI. Old Business a. CARE/ Appreciation Day status – October 29, breakfast @ 9:00 AM. There are 8 nominations as of 10/14 and several of them CSAC members. There is an online puzzle for prizes. Donations are still needed. b. Professional Development Status – The first round of applications are due Friday 10/16 5 pm VII. Chancellor’s report – Ryan Croke a. Stabbing on campus – 2 suspects have been arrested. UIS police handled the investigation appropriately in conjunction with other state and local authorities. More security cameras are needed on campus. Ideas are being sought for locations where additional security is needed. b. A request for proposals was published last week to general contractors to submit bids for student union. Vigorous fundraising and diplomacy with the UI administration by Chancellor Koch helped secure the remaining funds. Ground breaking is expected in Spring 2016 and is expected to be finished beginning of 2017. It does not rely upon state funding. c. Representative John Lewis is coming next week (10/19) to UIS to speak. d. October 20 is state-wide day of action and is scheduled at state house to urge Governor Rauner and leadership on budget. e. UIC Chancellor has issued a 20% across the board reduction in all departments. f. Chancellor has mentioned to a reporter that positions are not being filled and there are reductions in travel, expenses, etc. VIII. Human Resources report a. Negotiations with faculty union have begun. Faculty union cannot meet with faculty senate during designated senate meeting times. b. Trying to secure a campus salary program increase. This is difficult due to state budget. The CSP would not be retroactive to July 1. c. The background check has been delayed by the U of I board of trustees due to faculty complaints. A typical background check is about $50. IX. Treasurer’s Report – Denise Rothenbach – None X. Committee Reports APAC – Brian Moore – APAC is looking to help with staff scholarship fundraising. CARE/CSAD – Jo Barnard new CARE chair. CS and MIS looking for student options. SURS – Janice Marvel – No report SUCSAC – Jamie Voyles – None UIEAC – Bobbie Fults-Babbs (President), Janice Marvel (SURSMAC), Jamie Voyles (SUCSAC) – None Parking Appeals and Advisory Board – Amber Pyle and Joanne Hoagland Alternates: Eric Needham & CJ Castelletti – No report ROAD – Brian Moore & Kelly Walraven - Laurena Johnson spoke about cultural awareness. ROAD committee is lacking diversity. Sustainability – CJ Castelletti – Sustainability week is November 8-14. Public speakers, electronics recycling, and a photo contest are among the events taking place. SAGE is conducting a trash audit during that week as well. Student Discipline – Caitlin Perry & Kara Lawyer – Discussed code of conduct Webmaster – Toni Langdon - Very nice updates!
