Civil Service Advisory Council MINUTES Wednesday, October 3, 2012 10:00 a.m. – PAC 4E Present: Lori Atkinson, Ann Cole, Debbie Dove, Bobbie Fults, Darlene Harris-Kresse, Toni Langdon, Sandra Longen, Janice Marvel, Jamie McGill, Tracy Rakes, Jill Stoops, Amanda Winters and Patricia Young Absent: CJ Castelletti, Dawn Orlove, and Denise Rothenbach Guests: Chancellor Koch, Ed Wojcicki and Bob Lael Call to Order: 10:03 a.m. Approve Agenda for this meeting: Yes. Motion by Janice, second by Jill. Motion carried. Approve Minutes from last meeting: Yes. Motion by Jill, second by Lori. Motion carried. Announcements: 1. October is Cyber Security Month 2. October is also Breast Cancer Awareness Month New Business: 1. Chancellor Koch attended our meeting today and spoke about: a. Enrollment numbers for freshmen are up and want to continue to grow. She sees where some of the other colleges and universities are losing their enrollment numbers. b. Leadership Lived c. Chancellor Koch is very concerned about pension situations and does not foresee any changes before the Presidential elections are completed. d. Conversations are being had about any tuition increases. e. We will be seeing new television commercials with the new Leadership Lived theme shortly. f. Chancellor also announced that the State Journal Register is running a monthly column featuring the Chancellor and UIS called “UIS Prospective”. 2. A new committee for “UIS Survey Committee” has been formed with Bobbie, Lori, Jill, Ann and Jamie as committee members. 3. This years scholarship recipients were: Patty Young Mark Middlebrook Renee Clausner Old Business: 1. New positions on campus – Assistant to Dean position was posted as an AP position rather than civil service. Denise thought there were two versions of this title (one being civil service if duties are more business related, the other AP if duties are more financial related). * Bob Lael stated today that Denise was correct. 2 Professional Development Fund * Should we have to have a supervisor sign off on Eligibility and Application Process? Maybe make it optional. * Question was asked about minimum years of service for eligibility. * If a committee member applies for eligibility, they would site out for the review decision * APAC is going to include a letter of support to the proposal since the APAC Development Fund really helps the AP staff. * Ed will alert Bob so he can present this to the unions and get their approval. * Ed commended how well the proposal was put together. * Janice will get to Bobbie and she will submit it to the Chancellor’s Office before the next meeting. 3 CSAD * CSAD/CARE benched until November 4 Silent Auction Donor Form * We have the new form and requirements. Made a new Auction Committee to discuss the future auction and use of the new form. Janice, Ann, Patty, Tracie, Bobbie, Darlene and Debbie. We will meet within the next couple of weeks. * Darlene is not chairing the auction anymore since her recent promotion to A & R Officer. Chancellor’s Report – Ed Wojcicki HR Report – Bob Lael 1. Bob made the announcement that he is retiring on January 4th, 2013. 2. SUCS reviewed 200 AP Positions and 133 have been made Civil Service 3. Shining Star is Back, Congrats to Bill Cox 4. Question was asked if the HR department could give out Temporary Parking Decals for new employees for the first week until they purchase a parking decal. Treasurer’s Report – Denise Rothenbach – $47.52 was paid out for Appreciation Day Donation Committee Reports: APAC – Toni Langdon – Committee is discussing with SMTD to give bus reductions for our students, they are also discussing a Farmer’s Market on campus and also discussing flex hours. CARE – Ann Cole – No report CSAD – Bobbie Fults-No Report Campus Senate – Lori Atkinson – Discussing New Minor of Spanish for Fall 2013 Campus Technology – Janice Marvel – Announced if we have any problems with banner to call Farokh or Maureen. Healthy Initiatives – Bobbie Fults, Jamie McGill & Jill Stoops – No Report Human Capital Strategy – Toni Langdon and Janice Marvel 1. Still in a “gathering information” stage 2. Looking Good Parking Appeals and Advisory Board – Darlene Harris-Kresse & Debbie Dove – Several Meeting planned this month to get thru the September appeals.
