Civil Service Advisory Council MINUTES Wednesday, March 6, 2013 10:00 a.m. – PAC 4E Present: Lori Atkinson, CJ Castelletti, Debbie Dove, Bobbie Fults (via Skype), Toni Langdon, Sandra Longen, Jamie McGill, Dawn Orlove, Tracy Rakes, Denise Rothenbach, Jill Stoops, and Amanda Winters Absent: Ann Cole, Darlene Harris-Kresse, Janice Marvel, and Patricia Young Guests: Laura Alexander, Ed Wojcicki Call to Order: 10:06 a.m. Approve Agenda for this meeting: Yes. Motion by Debbie, second by Jill. Motion carried. Approve Minutes from last meeting: Yes. Motion by Debbie, second by CJ. Motion carried. Announcements: 1. The next CSAC meeting will be held on April 10, 2013. The meeting is being moved back 1 week so it doesn’t interfere with the Health Fair. 2. The Health Fair will be held April 3rd at TRAC. 3. Amanda’s last meeting will be April 10th. Her term is ending and she is not planning to re-run. New Business: 1. Campus Forum * The forum went really well; approximately 70 people attended including higher up civil service employees. * People were expecting solutions rather than just dialogue but Ed handled the situation well * CSAC will begin sending more communication to civil service staff 2. Executive Board Meeting with the Chancellor * The survey was discussed and the Chancellor will take next steps of action. The first area of focus will be orientation and supervisory training. Laura Alexander will meet with CSAC Executive Board to come up with a plan before moving forward. * Professional Development Fund is denied. Chancellor Koch said this type of fund would cause issues with the union contracts. The Chancellor will look into having more professional development training events on campus. * Briefly talked about establishing some type of discount with TRAC and Sangamon Auditorium. 3. Representative to Capital Honors Search * Patty Young and Lindsay Meece have volunteered. Bobbie will forward those names. 4. CSAC Outreach to Civil Service * Bobbie will begin sending regular emails to the civil service staff to keep everyone informed with things happening or things CSAC is working on. Old Business: 1. Professional Development Fund – discussed under New Business 2. Silent Auction Update, Spring for Talent * Need to start pushing for donations Chancellor’s Report – Ed Wojcicki 1. The three specific areas for improvement emerged: stronger new employee orientation, new employee training, and supervisory training (at all levels). The Chancellor has asked Human Resources to develop and create a program for each. 2. The survey was eye opening and the forum was done to help advance the conversation. HR Report – Laura Alexander 1. Laura is beginning to feel more “at home” and finally getting settled in. 2. HR feels a new employee orientation program could be implemented quickly. Employee and supervisory training will take a little more time but can be done. 3. Laura will meet with CSAC Executive Board to come up with a plan before moving forward. 4. Leadership Lived brand has a committee that will provide campus wide training to staff about what the message is and define Leadership Lived. Treasurer’s Report – Denise Rothenbach – No report Committee Reports: APAC – Toni Langdon 1. UPAC meeting was held February 13th 2. Elections are coming up. CARE – Ann Cole – No report -- Out CSAD – Bobbie Fults – No report Campus Senate – Lori Atkinson – No report Campus Technology – Janice Marvel – Out – No report SURS – Janice Marvel – No Report – Out SUCSAC – Denise Rothenbach 1. Next meeting will be held in April UIEAC – Bobbie Fults (President), Janice Marvel (SURSMAC), Denise Rothenbach (SUSAC) 1. On UIC and UIUC campuses, civil service staff members are not allowed to serve on standing committees. 2. UIC mentioned that they hold a “Meet & greet your CSAC Reps” following their elections. We will look into doing something similar following our elections. 3. UIC has become a smoke-free campus; UIUC is looking into doing the same. Parking Appeals and Advisory Board – Darlene Harris-Kresse & Debbie Dove – No Report ROAD – Máire Foxx and Dianne Morse – No Report 1. New volunteers on this committee. Both are civil service staff but not CSAC members. 2. Bobbie talked with Lynn Fisher about this committee requiring extensive time commitment. Sustainability – Dawn Orlove 1.
