Colton Smith, Candidate for Undergraduate Student Senator
There is no word I despise more than “young person”. For young people, the idea of change is a long fought battle. However, I believe it is time to change that narrative. When I served as my Junior and Senior Class President I understood what it meant to be open-minded, inclusive, respectful and more importantly, ready for change. Being raised by a single mother has taught me the ideals of leadership. Even when things seem impossible, it is always about serving a higher cause. UIS deserves the change that its student body represents. Things such as sustainability, mental health, and the relationship our student body has with the school. The idea that students can make the investment into their future and a university cannot, is the change we pledge to bring onto UIS. As young adults, your voices will remain my priority to help change U of I Springfield.
