The Mary M. Beaumont Scholarship was established in honor of Ms. Beaumont, former president of the Springfield Branch of the American Association of University Women. A fervent advocate of public policy engagement, Ms. Beaumont collaborated, organized and sponsored several community ventures during her tenure as president including the Public Attitudes Toward Public Education in Springfield survey, an AAUW initiative that began in the 1990s. Ms. Beaumont also established AAUW’s current recycling standard, Young Professionals study group for women, and the “Expand Your Horizons” conference encouraging middle school girls to study math, science and technology. Ms. Beaumont received her B.S. from Cornell University and her M.A. from Sangamon State University where she was Class Marshall of her graduating class. The AAUW-MMBS is awarded to a non-traditional female student of Sangamon County (or a nearby county w/o an AAUW branch) whose education has been interrupted.
