TV Guide

Over the 2014 Summer, the University of Illinois Springfield upgraded the system that distributes the channels around campus to digital, providing the campus with improved picture quality, better integration with the RAVE emergency notification system, and improved our space saving and energy saving efforts.

In order to take full advantage of this all-digital system including high-definition channels, please be sure to bring a digital TV with QAM tuner for use on campus.  A QAM tuner enables your digital TV to receive digital cable channels directly without a set top box. If you are unsure if your TV has a QAM tuner, please check with your TV’s manufacturer.

If you still have an analog TV (tube TV) you can continue to use it by purchasing a converter box.

HBO GO / MAX GO

HBO GoStudents living on campus can now watch HBO and Cinemax whenever (and wherever) you want on your laptop, phone, and other devices – on or off campus. Game of Thrones, Girls, The Knick, movies, sports and tons more—they’re all available.

The best part? HBO GO and MAX GO are already included with your housing so it’s super easy to activate your account:

  1. Go to www.hbogo.com or www.maxgo.com or download the apps
  2. Scroll down to select “U of I – Springfield” from the ‘Sign In’ menu
  3. Follow the login instructions to start watching

For assistance with setting up your TV, or for more information on the upgrade, visit the ITS Cable Television page for assistance and important information.

Electricity

Electric charges are included in room and apartment rates, and the electricity is on when you move in. We expect residents to be efficient in their usage of electricity.

Network Connections

Data connections are available in all units, which allow residents to directly connect to the campus computer network and the Internet. These data connections are made available to aid and enhance residents’ educational experience through the use of a broad variety of online resources and tools.

In addition to the wired data connections, Wireless Internet access is available in all academic and administrative buildings, all student apartments and residence halls, in recreational facilities, and in outdoor “gathering spots”.

Telephone

Telephones and land-line telephone connections are not provided.  Land-line phone service is no longer provided to residents by the University.

Mail and Packages

Standard United States Postal Services are provided to all students on campus via apartment or room mail boxes. All mail boxes in the apartments and townhouse are located on the exterior of your areas laundry facility with the exception of Larkspur, Bluebell, and Clover Court. Larkspur, Bluebell, and Clover mail boxes are located inside the main entrance of Homer Butler Housing Commons (HCOM). Residence hall mail boxes are located by the front desk of both LRH and FH. For packages or mail that is too large to fit in standard mailboxes, please refer to your area’s front desk. East and West campus packages reside in Homer Butler Housing Commons (HCOM). It is important that you put your designated mailing address down so that it is delivered to Homer Butler Housing Commons (HCOM). If you place the Homer Butler Housing Commons (HCOM) address as your shipping address it will be sent to the campus central shipping and receiving first which will delay the process of you receiving your package. Please know that if you are not the designated resident of a room, apartment, or townhouse, you can not receive packages or mail on campus unless you are the domestic partner, child, or spouse of a family housing resident.
