What’s New

New Policy on Hoverboards – Effective Immediately

In accordance with policies adopted at a growing number of campuses across the country, including UIUC, as well as the majority of public institutions within Illinois, UIS Dept. of Residence Life (DRL) is choosing to prohibit all hover-board transportation devices from all campus housing units.  Warnings regarding explosions or fires related to their use have been documented by the Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC).

UIS DRL believes it prudent from a campus fire safety perspective to adopt the UIUC advice recently distributed to its returning on-campus residents to “Don’t Bring Them to Campus.” Please refer to the following link from CPSC for further info:  link to the Consumer Product Safety Commission statement
