The Pre-award Grants, Contracts and Research Administration Office is responsible for negotiating all contracts resulting from the submission of a proposal to an outside funder.

Contracts must be written in the name of the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois, and with a signature line for the Comptroller.  Only the comptroller, or his designee, can sign contracts on behalf of the University.

A Contract Approval form must also be circulated with each contract. The signatures on this form document that the Project Director, Unit Head, and Central Campus Administration agree to the contract’s terms and conditions, the project’s statement of work, and the project budget. Sponsored Research Agreement

An agreement with another entity that is providing funding for a research project being conducted under the direction of university faculty.

The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs staff are available to assist with negotiating the agreement. Use the START myProposals electronic system to route for approvals.
