If you are seeking a career in politics, at the local level or on the international scene, then our online Political Science Bachelor of Arts Degree program at the University of Illinois at Springfield (UIS) can equip you with the academic background and the real-world experience you need to succeed.  Our program explores American politics, political campaigns, international relations, political philosophy, empirical analysis, and public policy.

Where you receive your degree matters.  The University of Illinois at Springfield is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission.  We have received numerous awards for excellence in online education, and we provide our online students with the same dynamic learning experience as our on-campus students.  Students in our online program are taught by the same professors who teach in our on-campus program, and our online students are supported both by faculty advisors and an online coordinator.  Read more about learning online in the UIS Political Science Department.

Our Curriculum

Both the online Political Science Bachelor’s Degree program and the on-campus program have identical curriculum requirements.  The only difference between our online program and our on-campus program is that students in our online Political Science Bachelor’s Degree program complete all of their courses 100% online.  Online students are able to complete their internship where they reside, and corresponding coursework and field visits can be completed online remotely.  We also offer the opportunity for online students to earn Department Honors in Political Science.  Additionally, our online students have the opportunity to apply for our Integrated Political Science B.A. / M.A. ProgramFor more information on our degree requirements, visit our curriculum page.

Admission Requirements

Students may apply to begin in either the fall, spring or summer semester.  Students should apply directly through the Office of Admissions.

In order to be admitted to the online Political Science Bachelor’s Degree Program, students must have:

  • Earned a minimum of 30 college credit hours
  • Have cumulative college GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • Reside at least 50 miles outside of Springfield, Illinois.

We recommend that students complete all of their Illinois General Education requirements before they begin the online Political Science Bachelor’s Degree Program.  Students may apply and be admitted to the online Political Science Bachelor’s Degree Program prior to completing all of their general education requirements; however, they may need to complete missing General Education requirements either at a local community college or online through UIS.
