Application / Recruitment Period, 2020-2021
Prairie Area Teaching Initiative (PATI) recruits annually. During this time applications are processed and reviewed. Applications may be submitted at any time.
If you are a senior in high school, attend a community college, or are a paraprofessional who is a first-generation student and/or student of racial diversity who is wanting to enter the teaching profession, you may be eligible for participation in PATI. It is designed to prepare “students and paraprofessionals to become teachers in Illinois.” Graduates are expected to return to districts in Illinois for a minimum of two years after licensure.
PATI students/candidates are provided with a series of activities and incentives to increase aptitude and motivation for teaching. It consists of academic mentoring, advising, professional development opportunities, cultural enrichment, and service-learning each semester. Current UIS students/candidates must enroll in TEP 202 Teaching as Service every semester for the first eight weeks of each semester.

Students applying to PATI must submit a PATI application and agreement, apply to UIS, send in transcripts, and complete their FASFA. In addition, they will have an interview with the Director.
