New Student Orientation Student Worker Positions
The Office of New Student Orientation employs a number of students to assist with its orientation and family programming. These positions are considered para-professional – working alongside professional staff and having a significant level of knowledge, skills, and responsibilities that characterize their unique duties with new students and families.

O-Team Recruitment 2019
O-Team Captains. The O-Team Captains are experienced orientation leaders who have served on the Orientation Team for at least one year. The O-Team Captain position allows students the unique opportunity to practice their team and leadership skills with current orientation leaders while welcoming new students and family members to UIS. There are two Captain positions available.
O-Team Captain Application Materials (closed until 2020 )
2nd and 3rd Year Orientation Leaders. Students wishing to return to the Orientation Team for a second or third year will complete the OL_Application_2019, answer the questions on the application – including the additional questions for returning staff members, and apply for the Orientation Leader position through Career Connect by Thursday, February 21 at 11:59 p.m. You must also obtain two recommendations using the O-Team Recommendation Form 2019 which are due at 5 p.m. on Friday, February 22. You will sign up for an interview between February 6 and February 26.
Returning Orientation Leaders will not need to attend OL Training for new OLs, but will be required to attend the O-Team Retreat on Saturday, April 13, 2019. There will be opportunities for 2nd and 3rd year OLs to assist with training in the Spring Semester – you will be contacted with dates.
Orientation Leaders (OLs). Applications for new Orientation Leaders for the 2019 O-Team are
available until February 21, 2019.
New Orientation Leaders are undergraduates. First time members to the O-Team are selected because of their enthusiasm for, knowledge of, and involvement in the UIS Community. OLs assist in orienting new students and their parents to campus. OLs will facilitate small group discussions with students and answer questions that help to teach new students about the University of Illinois Springfield resources, traditions, opportunities, and student expectations.
Spanish Translators/Orientation Leaders.
NSOPR is looking for individuals who can assist Spanish-speaking family members of new students with Spanish/English interpretation between patients/families and university staff. Interpreters will attend orientation sessions with Spanish-speaking parents/family members and interpret the speakers presentation, translate any questions the parents/family members have and answer questions about the orientation program for parents/family members. When students are not needed for interpreting, they will be assisting with orientation activities and new students as orientation leaders.
Spanish Language Fluency Verification: Please make an appointment with Spanish instructor Arnoldo Robles-Reyes [firstname.lastname@example.org] so he can verify your Spanish Language Fluency. This must be done by Friday, February 22 so he can send me an email by 5 p.m. to be included in your application folder.
