Fall Semester Launch

First Year Students at the Pep Rally held during Launch Week

All new first-year students (commuter and on-campus residential) are required to attend Fall Semester Launch programs August 20-23.  This is the second part of your Orientation to UIS. We have a number of events scheduled that Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday before classes start to help you become a more effective student, get acclimated to campus, meet your classmates, and have fun before classes start on Monday, August 26!

Tuesday, August 20 (check back for updates as we confirm our program)

5 – 6:30 p.m.
Semester Launch Check-in.  All students pick up your Star Guide and name tag.  You will be expected to bring this with you to all Semester Launch events.

6:30 – 7:30 p.m.

Orientation Group Meetings.  Students will meet in their O-Groups to get acquainted with their first-year classmates and review the Semester Launch schedule. More information will be on you Star Guide label. (Mandatory for all students)

7:30 – 8:30 p.m.

  • Residence Life Floor Meetings (only for students living on campus).
  • Commuter Student Meeting (only for students living at home and commuting to campus).
8:30 p.m.
Prairie Star Connections – Meet the Class of 2023! (Mandatory for all students)

Wednesday, August 21

9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Mandatory programming.  (Commuters should plan to schedule work after 5 p.m.).

5:30 – 7 p.m. Optional programming hosted by UIS departments.

7:30 – 9 p.m. New Student Convocation.  Meet Your Classmates. Receive the first piece of your Commencement Regalia, and sign the Class of 2023 Pledge to Success.

9 – 11 p.m.   Making TRACs.  Learn about all that Campus Recreation can offer: Intramurals, Day and Weekend Trips including white water rafting and skiing, fitness classes, and much more.

 

Thursday, August 22

9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Mandatory programming.  (Commuters should plan to schedule work after 5 p.m.).

4:30 – 6 p.m. BBQ for Science Majors, Hosted by Allied Health Department.

5 – 6:30 p.m.  Minuit to Win It, CBM Style. Challenge your skills fun Minuit to Win It games and enjoy pizza with faculty. Hosted by the College of Business.

5:30 – 7 p.m.  Crafts, Paths, & Cookies. DIY crafting and sweet treats. Hosted by the Career Development Center.

6 –  7 p.m.  Department of Art, Music & Theatre Open House and Ice Cream Social.

7:30 – 9 p.m.  The Hookup. What’s a Healthy Hook-up, What’s a Regrettable Hook-up? Hosted by the Women’s Center.

Friday, August 23

9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Mandatory programming.  (Commuters should plan to schedule work after 5 p.m.)

6:45 – 7:30 p.m. UIS History & Traditions. Bring your school spirit and join O-Team members as they team up to teach the Class of 2023 campus history and traditions, the fight song, and cheers.  Wear your class of 2023 t-shirt for the class picture afterwards.
