UIS women's soccer fell 2-1 to Maryville when the teams met in Springfield on Friday. The Prairie Stars are now 0-2-3 overall.

The Maryville Saints, first-time GLVC Champions 2022, were voted as the favorite by the league's coaches in the GLVC preseason poll. The Saints are off to a 3-1-1 start this fall.

Abby Dellamorte scored on a header assisted by Brooke Biffar just under the ten minute mark. The game resumed in similar fashion to last week's matchup against Michigan Tech as the Saints responded immediately by heading one past UIS goalkeeper Allison Mirimanian.

Maryville pressed throughout the second half, attempting three shots in a span of just over three minutes early on. Two would be on target, both saved by Mirimanian. UIS was up for the challenge and defended itself well against the reigning GLVC Champions as time wound down.

Maryville took their 2-1 lead with just over two minutes remaining. Freshman Carolyne Mathenia made a final effort to equalize the match in the final minutes, but the shot was stopped by Saints goalkeeper Gigi Yurevich.

Allison Mirimanian faced 11 shots and had four saves.
