Illinois Springfield men's soccer shut out the No. 7 Maryville Saints Friday night at Kiwanis Stadium to improve to 2-1-2. Joe Conway scored the lone goal and Andrea Scapolo contributed four saves in his first shutout as a Prairie Star.

The Prairie Stars, currently unranked, gave the 7-ranked Saints their first loss of the 2023 season. It was a near-equal offensive effort with the Prairie Stars putting up nine shots, five on goal, as Maryville made eight attempts, four on goal.

Joe Conway put UIS ahead on his first shot of the day, allowing UIS to lead for nearly 70 minutes. He made one more on-target attempt during the matchup, however it would result in one of MU goalkeeper Nick Hemann's four saves.

Maryville has averaged two goals per game and held its opponents to one goal per game so far in 2023. The UIS defense was nearly impassable and Andrea Scapolo was clutch with four major saves including one with just over two minutes on the clock.
