Benjamin Nichols has been featured on dozens of recordings and hundreds of performances around the world. He wrote and performed horn lines as part of the Ryan Innes Band (American Idol, The Voice), which won by popular vote the $10,000 grand prize at the Stadium of Fire in 2012 and opened for the Beach Boys. Ben received a master’s degree from the New England Conservatory of Music (NEC), where he studied with jazz legends Jerry Bergonzi, Miguel Zenon, Donny McCaslin, and Jason Moran. While at NEC, Ben served as a teaching assistant to Jerry Bergonzi and Ken Schaphorst. Ben was a featured soloist at the Edinburgh, Burmingham, Marlborough, Wigan, and Durham Jazz Festivals (England); the Glasgow Jazz Festival (Scotland); the Rio Das Ostras Jazz e Blues Festival (Brazil); the opening gala of the IAJE International Conference (New York); Ryles Jazz Club (Massachusetts); the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival; and the Essentially Ellington Jazz Festival. He has performed and/or recorded with Doc Severinsen, Ben Wendel, Wycliffe Gordon, Jon Faddis, Steve Smith, Jeff Coffin, Eric Marienthal, Kirk Whalum, Carl Allen, Rashawn Ross, John Beasley, Lenny Pickett, Brian Bromberg, Ron Blake, Wayne Bergeron, Gregg Bissonette, Shelly Berg, Conrad Herwig, Terreon Gully, Pete Christlieb, and Ernie Watts.
