Atul Agarwal Receives
Pearson Faculty Award

Atul Agarwal, professor of management information systems, has received the Pearson Faculty Award for outstanding teaching.  The award recognizes a faculty member whose performance exemplifies UIS’ commitment to excellence in teaching and who stands among the very best teachers on campus.  Such a teacher both informs and inspires students, giving them the knowledge and values with which they may become productive and enlightened citizens.

Dr. Agarwal teaches BUS 522 Production and Operations Management, BUS 529 Quality Systems and Lean Operations, and BUS 539 Managing Healthcare Operations.  His teaching philosophy rests on five pillars of educational excellence to: create a learner-centered environment, encourage active learning, create “learned” vs. “high grade” individuals, encourage learning with fun, and integrate new knowledge from scholarly work into student learning.

Leo Bin Named
PNC Distinguished Professor

Dr. Leo Bin teaches BUS 502–Managerial Finance and BUS 505–Investments.

Finance professor Leo Bin was awarded a large medallion in on honor of his new title, PNC Distinguished Professor in Banking and Finance.  The endowment will provide Dr. Bin significant financial support to conduct research and other scholarly activities.

Dr. Bin’s published scholarship focuses on financial analysis and international investment, especially related to risks.  Some of his research is first in its field, such as investment group decision efficiency and risk-return effectiveness as simulated in the StockTrak portfolio management program and the risk-return association for U.S. gaming industry stocks.
