Ben Walsh Receives 2017 University Scholar Award
UIS associate professor of management, Ben Walsh, was recently named University Scholar for 2017. The award, considered the university system’s highest faculty honor, recognizes outstanding teaching and scholarship. Along with the recognition, Dr. Walsh will receive $15,000 a year for three years to support research and other scholarly activities. “It is an unexpected, great award,” said Walsh. “Since my research mainly relies on the result of surveys done by hundreds or even thousands of participants, the funding will continue to be used for encouraging people to participate in data collection.”
The majority of Dr. Walsh’s research focuses on interpersonal relationships in the workplace, with particular focus on civility and mistreatment. His research examines how work places have treated cases of incivility, with a focus on understanding the history and outcomes of incivility and sexual harassment, as well as the effectiveness of interventions designed to prevent workplace mistreatment.
Dr. Walsh teaches MGT 531 Acquiring and Developing Talent, an MBA elective and Human Resource Management Certificate course.
