Full Report 2014

The information on this section comes from a comprehensive economic impact study commissioned by the University of Illinois Springfield in 2014.

The economic impact study was conducted by Economic Modeling Specialists Inc. (EMSI), a global company with U.S. headquarters in Moscow, Idaho. The study estimates the impact of UIS on its region in terms of job and income formation, higher earnings captured by past students, returns to taxpayers, and a broad collection of social benefits and avoided costs.

Data and assumptions used in the study are based on several sources, including the 2013-14 academic and financial reports from the university, industry and employment data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and U.S. Census Bureau, outputs of EMSI’s Social Accounting Matrix (SAM) model, and a variety of studies and surveys relating education to social behavior. The study applies a conservative methodology and follows standard practice using only the most recognized indicators of investment effectiveness and economic impact.

Details on the methodology used in the study are available in the full report for 2014 (PDF).
