Dr. Carol Rankin
I received my bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Psychology from Sangamon State University (now UIS). Later I received my doctorate in Rehabilitation Counseling from Southern Illinois University. I joined the faculty at UIS in the Human Services Program in 2000 to help establish the Alcohol and Substance Abuse Concentration.
In 2007 I joined the faculty at California State University- Fresno and chaired the Rehabilitation Counseling Program. I retired in 2013 from CA and returned to central Illinois. In Fall 2015 I returned to the Human Services Program as a Visiting Professor.
I am a certified Rehabilitation Counseling (CRC) and am a certified alcohol and substance abuse counselor in IL (CADC). I also am registered in mental illness and substance abuse (MISA, IL). I have several years experience as a behavioral specialist with the IL Department of Mental Health-Developmental Disabilities. I have presented nationally on issues related to substance abuse; dual disorders; women in recovery; cognitive-behavioral approaches to anger awareness, rehabilitation counseling, and on the applications of motivational interviewing.
