Support Groups: Fluidity and Shades
Want a safe & confidential group to share coming out stories, explore your identity, and listen to other UIS students? These weekly groups are facilitated by staff from the office and the Counseling Center at UIS. All inquiries are kept strictly confidential.
Students across the LGBTQIA+ spectrum and their allies meet on a weekly basis and discuss topics relevant to their experiences including campus, community and interpersonal situation. Fluidity provides a safe and confidential space for those exploring their sexual and/or gender identity with peers. It provides support and advocacy for it’s members and is a judgement free zone.
Students of color and those interested in dialogue about the intersections of race, sexual orientation, and gender identity, meet on a weekly basis every Friday from 6pm-7pm in the GSSS student lounge (SLB 22). SHADES is both a social involvement program and group discussion. SHADES welcomes everyone and works to provide a space for students of color to meet and dialogue without worrying about a white supremacist, heterosexist, homophobic, or transphobic culture.
If interested in joining the groups send an email to the firstname.lastname@example.org for location, time, & date. Questions? Contact us at 217-206-8316.
