Trick or Treat for Canned Goods is a fun canned goods donation drive. Students, Faculty, and Staff form teams and the week before Halloween each team canvasses an assigned neighborhood armed with fliers, door hangers, and ID buttons identifying themselves and the project. On the afternoon of Oct. 31, the teams return to their neighborhood to collect canned good rather than candy. All the food is brought back to a weigh-in party where volunteers gather to see how much they collected, learn from community members, and find out who collected the most food. All items are donated directly to the Central Illinois Foodbank.
In 2019, Trick or Treat for Canned Goods raised a combined total of over 16,000 lbs of food for the Central Illinois Foodbank. Our goal for 2021 is to meet or exceed the donation with 20 or more teams participating.
