The principal preparation program is designed to meet the professional growth and in-service needs of Illinois educators.

This program provides a carefully planned set of experiences and competencies needed to serve in elementary and secondary administrative leadership positions. Courses in the program are appropriate for classroom teachers, State Board of Education personnel, central administrative staff, and school board members. A wide selection of courses is available to meet student needs and interest, while fulfilling degree and/or certification requirements.

This program prepares future elementary and secondary school administrators (Principals, Assistant Principals, Deans and Department Chairs) who are highly qualified to hold leadership positions in K-12 schools.  The program was designed to provide a rigorous set of experiences to develop the knowledge, skills, dispositions, and competencies needed by educational leaders at the local and state level. The UIS principal preparation program is approved by the Illinois State Board of Education.”

Principal Endorsement prepares educators who seek to lead in an administrative capacity to become principals, assistant principals, deans, and department chairs.

Content tests are required for licensure.
