Carolee Rigsbee has extensive business and industry leadership experience in quality assurance and project/program management (software-based systems) and specializes in strategic management. Her research is focused on the design of innovative organization governance and value chain structures and processes that strengthen stakeholder voice and reduce obstacles to social goal achievement. Currently, Carolee is studying the potential of vertically integrated value chains (meta-organizations) enabled by blockchain technology and shared governance structures to deliver goods and services in support of the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals.
Carolee is a member of the Executive Committee for the UI System Center for Urban Resilience and Environmental Sustainability (CURES). Carolee co-leads the CURES Community Project Lab (CPL) which is designed to help connect small Illinois communities to resources to achieve community sustainability goals. The 2021 round of the CPL, sponsored by the Illinois Innovation Network, the UIC Energy Initiative, and the Illinois Institute for Rural Affairs at WIU, was held December 2, 2021. The planning for the Fall 2022 event, sponsored by the Lumpkin Family Foundation is underway.
Carolee was also involved in organizing the NSF sponsored “CURES Connection” workshop, held August 7th and 8th, 2019 at the Discovery Partners Institute, at which a broad network of stakeholders focused on addressing energy, water, and climate related issues faced by cities of different sizes in Illinois and the Midwest and set the groundwork for advancing action in these areas.
Carolee is also on the organizing committee for the international conference on Sustainability, Ethics, and Entrepreneurship (SEE Conference website). The conference. Last held in 2020 due to COVID-19, the conference highlights cutting edge research on social impact investment mechanisms, social entrepreneurship, and mission-based enterprises (e.g., benefit corporations, B-Corp certified firms) and other topics related to social and environmental progress.
